I've just got an Edis 4, sensor and coil pack. All the wiring diagrams I've seen show the Edis having 12 connections, but mine only has 11. I've never seen any suggestion that there is more than one type, so can anyone shed any light?

Geoff - its pin 11 that almost certainly is missing - you should have a gap between pins 10 and 12. Pin 11 is not present on nearly all (if not all) 4 cylinder EDIS modules - and you don't need it either!. Pin 11 is used on 6- and 8-cylinder EDIS modules, however.
