Be warned this is probably one of my duller posts.

Basically I'm tring to decide which caseing to use, as well as a couple of stock boxs I've also got a Metty Turbo Box & a MPI box (I've heard the web in these is stronger but correct me if I'm wrong). Anyway I was wandering what peoples thoughts where as to which it the best casing to go for?

I would say A Plus, due to the missing extra hole on the web. But ive noticed a pattern emerging, it must have been a bad casting or somthing but on some A+ Boxes there is a split on the web but its more like a casting fault than a failure. Then ive seen others and they are perfect. Ill have to post some pics up as an example.

I thought it was a mith that the turbo box was any different to ANY A+ box apart from the bigger nosie bearing, I won't go into that now as you older members may remember a few posts last time i spoke about it lol. (not on here i would add)

So i would say Just use an A+ box, that has had the least power going through it. the only problems i've had with the boxes is them distorting, but that might just be me.

The last box i rebuilt had a small fracture in the web and the bearing popped in dead easy rather than been tapped in. The box went on an MPI mini and has had no issues upto now.

I could be wrong but... I've heard the later MPi casings were beefed up and they were used by Jack Knight for the 5 speed conversions. Still has DAM5626 casting number but also has JKD letters nearby too. I think they beefed up around the layshaft locating areas in the centre and end webs as these holes were enlarged by JK when fitting the special 5 speed bits

could you post a pic asap, as my last gearbox had exactly this syndrom of pop in too easily. I did look at it at this time but didn't found a reason to not use it, but now...

I have just rebuilt my gearbox and finding a decent case was my BIGGEST problem. I cleaned 3 before I found a decant one. I agree with paul you need DAM 5626 which is only found on A+ engines. You need to make sure you have the 3 bolt fixing around double roller bearing end retainer and if its a second hand box check carefully for hairline cracks. Also remember to source the diff casing as well if you are buying 2nd hand. Good luck.

PS - if you have a good MPI box I would definately use that one.

Use the A+ or Turbo they as they are the same apart from the nose bearing as stated by Matt.
