Have been driving it for the last 2 hours getting used to it, shaking it down, and filing the new needle. For some reaon, it's taken me nearly 2 hours to do the needle, and it's still not right!
Unfortunately, it's too rich at light cruise around 1800-2400 rpm - like VERY rich (9.5 on the Lambda)... Seems spot on everywhere else, but of course it's too rich, so i have to start a new needle again!!!! But it'll do for the RR tomorrow.

Whilst i think ahead, it's obvious some blocks are just good and some are crap when it comes to cooling. The block i was using till christmas, NEVER got hot, or overheated. I'm using the same ignition advance, water pump, head, rad, pulley, stat, etc. as last year, and this engine cooks itself if left idling. Block was fully prep'd as i always do, but it's obviously got some rogue casting flash or something, probably at the rear of the block, which is causing the problem...
Or at least it was - I've connected the water outlet (where the heater tap is normally) straight into the top hose, and this has made a big difference!
I ran out of time to fit the leccy pump, maybe before Avon, maybe not!

Fingers crossed today goes well for you matey!

Blocks to vary enourmously, Xraying is the only way to def pic a good one. I suppose a CAT scanner would be even better! Theres another multi thousand pound machine to add to the wish list.

It's funny isn't it.

I had an engine in my mini and it I couldn't keep it cool. It's now in my bros' and it won't get hot; and I ran a blanking sleeve and a minispares 2 core rad and he runs a standard 3 core rad and a stat.

Bonkers.
