Help!!! I am just in the process of putting my mini back together after spraying and finding it nie on impossible in putting the rear subframe in. The shell was a 1994 rover mini and the subframe came from a 1970 era ish clubman estate. I thought subframes were the same? What could be causing it to be difficult, do i have to fit the later type mountings and bushes to the earlier subframe?

Many thanks
Chris

the rear most mountins dont line up. they are too far back, the frame is fitted with poly bushes, dont know if i need to use a bodge bar and force it into place, is force needed?

Have you tightened the front ones up to pull the frame forwards?

in my humble experience rear subbys never fit straight up, i'v only done 2 mind, but on both it took some considerable leverage to get teh frame to line up with the holes correctly.

just done mine with a new one and that was the same , rear wouldnt line up. but got one side in, and had to make near side rear holes a bit bigger to get bolts through, then used slightly bigger washers , when bolted up she sat true.

done loads now and they are all a pain in the arse.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

The only one I've ever done that lined up right was a genuine frame into an immaculate never welded shell.

It will be the poly bushes not a compliant as rubber to allow for all the production tolerances! LOL Brute force ignorance requirement here. Make sure all mounts etc are loose to line everything up.

we had a similar problem and simply couldn't fit the poly bushes to the rear mounts as there was not enough play in them to let the mounts line up - ended up fitting standard bushes to the inner side of the mount to give just enough play

I have poly bushes on mine and the subframe was a b!tch to fit, i used a pry bar through the mounting holes, was a very crude method!
