i was doing a turbo today at work and had a little moment (no not a woman)
we had a new turbo in from BTN (holset H2b or c cant rememebr which) which was leaking oil into the exhaust side, bearing in mind it was a complete new unit, the groove in the centre body was fine and well defined, clip was in good condition. How ever it would push into the housing requering a fair amount of effort but then it would easy as anything slide right back out again which got me thinking, usualy it feels as thouh it locks into that grove in the housing, but one of the guys there at work point out somthing, the piston clip if it sat inside the grove it would then expand open, then point of the seal would then be lost as it will have opened too much
so, where does the piston clip seat? not in the grove i guess now is it just on the surface prior to the groove?
and if it doesnt locate into the grove what is the grove actualy there for in the 1st place? cos the turbos at work when ever the grove is buggered it seems as tho the P. clip wont locate at all and always pisses oil out
it located better when a new piston clip was fitted but still not perfect, i just got a wee bit confused is all >_<
