Usually what makes the difference is the material, are they both plated steel or is one stainless?

Top one clearly looks plated. Bottom one could be plated or stainless. Looks plated to me though.

I know Merlin are dear, but I was expecting Rally Design to be dearer !!!!!

it is possible they are for different styles of hose though. Cant tell unless you see the hose clamping method

That suprises me. I always found merlin to be competitive. Quality service too. But yeah... that's a pretty big difference.

I'd say they aint both made by Goodridge. You can see that the nut is machined differently where the hose enters.

But in use they are the same and i'd save ya cash and go Rally Design. They are pretty cheap on quite a bit of stuff. You can reuse both, you need a new olive each time you put it onto a hose.

Prices on hose and fittings varies a LOT, goodridge and earls being the costlier option. Flip side is that they generally have a wider range.

Thread on the convex end is UNF and 3/8 is a JIC -3, pretty much standard fit on brakes.

ALthough, strictly speaking. All brake hoses should be crimped.

DIY versions should fail MOT, although its rare MOT testers would pick up on it

Really running hose like that should fail an mot? Well you learn something everyday. Just because its good enough on racing cars doesn't mean its good enough for the road!

A properly fitted/crimper hose, is an OE quality item.

DIY build hoses......Generally its hard to get wrong. But then, a quick look at some cars on ebay, just shows you how wrong some people can get things.
And brakes are one of those rather important areas.
