Just got my trigger wheel (Thanks Ross, mini-maruader in the For Sale section) and I've been thinking...

All the photos I've seen on this site (and others) seem to mount the trigger on the front (outside) of the pulley, or even get the notches machined straight into the outer bit, but why not the back ???
(wedged in place for photo)

Or even use the metal plate that is fitted to the back of later pulleys (left of photo) to attach it to the bit without the rubber, can't mimic it in the photo (need to take the plate off first) but you can probably see what I mean.
It would need a slightly smaller trigger wheel or a small mod to the chain cover, or the earlier cover, but do-able ???

Rod.

looks like a fair idea,

also i reckon you could make "tooth 1" line up with the existing timing marks.

Thats how I did my Rover V8, and my LS1.

Easy peasy, and no fancy machining. Also gives you the freedom to mount the sensor anywhere if you wanted.

Although a Dizzy based cam/phase would be another option ( Nissan and Toyota use compact dizzy style mount sensors, although these would require some work to adapt )

OK, Just machined the rivets off to free the plate (damaged pulley, not by me, if anyone notices)
then taped the triggerwheel to the plate

and, as expected, it fouls the cover ever so slightly

The next size down trigger wheel would clear, or a small modification to the cover.
I have yet to figure out if I can get a small enough VR sensor in there (next on my shopping list) but I thnk I prefer the trigger wheel behind the pulley, and mounted on the non-rubber part of the pulley.

Used to have the trigger wheel on the back of the pulley on my long cam set up (KAD) kept cracking the mounting, the tin plate etc whatever I used - but that might have been revs!

I bet my first wank came quicker than your first mini turbo

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.
