hmm this is confusing , if this pump flows total about 35 l/min

and this is the input on the pump thread ,

Sprock has it on the nose - 80l/min minimum is the flow needed. The ickle Bosch ones at 30l/min are ok for reciruc on shutdown - strangely enough thats what they are designed for or for a chargecooler circuit

then who's right?

Conincidentally, I was reading their website earlier on this afternoon, trying to find out what electric water pumps were out there....

Well Robert,

All i know is this pump absolutely cains the flow of the stock pump on my problematic engine (or rather - problematic block)...

Jimbo noted that when he fitted this pump, and tested it with the lid off his swirl-pot, that for the first time ever, it had a real high-velocity swirl about it that he had never seen on any other pump.

Take a look at the graph - and note the 'small' pumps that some have - and some haven't used succesfully - and compare the flow of the biggie...

So yes, I can't state a number that is needed for flow but I can show a flow range at different heads that I've got evidence as works on three very different A-series configurations.

Paul S has given me some more input on how / where to put pressure taps, such that I can calculate the flow at cold and hot conditions, and hence actually achieve a flow figure by reading off the chart (admittedly for my own engine however) to hopefully answer some of these 'flow requirement' questions.

As of today, i have a half-finished bathroom that needs finishing before I'm allowing myself time to complete these tests however...

I'd go with the tried and tested method for sure...

Dave's, jims and the don has certainly had some hammer.

I'm very tempted to get one of these. Is there any kind of fitment guide provided - i.e. beginners guide to plumbing it in?

What happens with regards to the standard water pump? Does it remain, but with the belt removed?

Sorry for so many questions... This is for a project I'm planning to start in a couple of weeks time, so I'm just trying to figure it all out in my head at the moment!

Right now, I'm going to honestly say - as per the text, that there are no instructions 'today'....

However, there could be - but rest assured you'll find plenty of assistance on here.

The ideal is to remove the impellor from the pump. I did this - and it was a pain, but well do-able. If you had a word with someone on here who has a lathe, they could likelly turn the job around pretty easilly.

Having said that - perhaps plumbing it in with the pump would be an in teresting experiment?

OK - I see what you mean (I think! *wink*). If I understand right, you're effectively turning the existing water pump into a 'blanking plate', and just utilising the hose connector?

That is pretty much it - yes...

that makes sense dave ,
it will be great to get some data to solve this for certain ,
i suppose , if one put a pressure guage on a engine with a normal pump ,and placed it at the output of the pump ,say in the block cavity beside the mounting point ,then , if it read say 5 psi , then if that was relative to flow which it should be ,then one could do the same exp with a leccy pump , and if it created the same head of pressure ,against the same flow restriction ,then the flow would be the same ? this would have to be at max rpm i suppose .
just thought this up in my head so it may be total drivel !

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Rob - PaulS was keen to stress that the pressure tap point has to be the same on either side of the 'pump' so the only way to do that would be to dry-deck the block, such that you had just one 'outlet' from the block I reckon...

Paul W I don't know who copied who - especially as MiniMania in the USA sold alloy front plates in the mid 90's, and pumps have been sold by KAD for a long time but to keep you in check - I'll give you a big kiss once I sell a million. :)

TD, arent some A+ hoses 1 1/8"? Im sure my thermostat spout measured this?

Might be an idea to offer adapters for that size hose too?

Im possibly talking bollocks, but hope not as ive just ordered some silicone hoses from hong kong..
