Just been out thoroughly tidying the garrage (no one likes working in mess !) and was sweeping filler dust out of the boot when it reminded me of a question i need to put to all the mini turbo veterans out there !

I removed the filer neck hole when i deseamed the shell (except the roof!) as the plan is to use an alloy tank in the centre of the boot. now im sure i remember something about when converting from N/A to turbo you need a different (mpi ?) tank ?
does this mean i am going to have to look for a certian type of alloy tank ?
If so, or even if not, does anyone have any reccomendations as to which alloy tank to buy ?
as i need to get the mountings welded in there before it visits the paint shop !

Thanks :)

Will my project ever be finished !!? hopefully you guys can help !
Its only been like 10 years in the making and I'm only just assembling my engine!

You can use a external pump, i.e. the metro turbo one and any alloy tank. get the pump as low as possible and it will be fine.

People use the mpi and spi tanks as they are a neat solution as all the pump is then contained. no reason other than that.

If your mounting the tank direct to the boot floor then you'd be best to mount the pump on the subby to ensure the pump doesn't cavitate when the tank runs low or when you go round corners. *wink*

I was just about to do some reaserch and possibly start another thread regarding rear sub frames actually as i currently have a Huddersfield 'Beam' Subframe but have heard not so great things about them so not sure what to do. so anyway, whatever happens with subframe, i will keep ur information in mind, thanks !

Endaf from Owens fabrication (growling sheep on this forum) made mine, built in fuel pump and filter mounts on it too (underneath).
After going EFI I did have fuel starfation problems, all sorted now

Jim, how's the pump mounted?

I'm interested in that sort of setup myself to be honest, i want a low point in my tank as hard corners, even when fairly full have caused me the odd misfire.

Also Jim if you dont mind me asking what size is that tank ? as how much fuel it holds ,I have been seaching the net all day for tanks as i have just recived my curly carbon boot floor. Also has that tank got a sender unit fitted too ?

wow, they look very nice !

that should fit with the standard boot floor shouldn't it or would it have to be the carbon fiber floor ?

And if you dont mind me asking, how much did it set you back ?

It's hard to explain how the pump is mounted, there is like a U shaped alloy plate on the base of the fuel tank, the pump fits in the middle of the U and is held in place with large cable ties. I'm removing the tank tomorrow, I'll take some more pics. I can't remember the size of the tank to be honest. I did work it out, I'll have to dig out the drawing, the tank is larger than it looks, it gets deeper after it has dropped down behind the antiroll bar.

if anyone else wants one of these tanks www.owensfabrication.com

Yes, theres coil overs on it, im not sure of the rear beam ( i got it second hand) its similar to the huddersfield one, but with a couple of minor differences

I got the tank from concept racing, they made it up-01432 850 889

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

Better solution than the meccy setup. 2 facets. One pickup each end of the tank!
Bliddy noise they make!

Jason,

How does this work? facets dont produce enough pressure?

From what i remember is JF uses facets to the swirl pot, then the metty pump out of there?

I'm tempted with a setup like this to be honest. I just want something 100% reliable.
