About time i upgraded from the Lumix, been saving hard last few months and its about time i treated myself, being a Nikon fan i was looking at the D80 but as its a bit old now i am not to sure as i want a good lifecycle from it, the others are out my price (and talent) range and the new D60 is to small

My mate has a sony - it takes nice pictures in auto mode, but he never strays into any manual modes so I can't compare it to my camera.

I don't really no about sonys. yes for what you seem to be after seems a really hard one to call, so many on the market. Sony is still a good name so i would have thought it to be ok, you just have to look closerly at what you will be doing with it. go on one of the many review sites and get the differences in them all. Best 1/4 mile 13.2 seconds @116 mph

i got myself a nikon d40x a few months with the 18-55 kit lens, then the 55-200VR lens on top. It has let me take some great snaps despite my lack of ability

Dan the D40 and 60 i find to small, megapixles are not an issue, 6 is fine for most applications and a 6mp quality sensor is better than a poor 14mp sensor might have a look at the 40d this week my old chaps got a 30d so i can nick his lenses
