You may have seen my post that I am in the process of pricing up parts to fully rebuild my 1275 engine.

After browsing minispares, MED, Avonbar etc etc I started to think about engine kits and specifically the Avonbar APEK 1380 Engine Kits. (Metro Turbo A+ with old style Mini flywheel)

Are these any good? or is there a better kit from another company?

It just seems a better option than buying all the parts individually.

Just to drag this post up again I have been looking at the Avonbar site again and the 2 options of turbo kits they do, the APEK kit and the HOTEK kit.

http://www.avonbar.com/product/?pid=6193

I contacted Avonbar as to how much the APEC kit would be with a few extras, these being:

1. Lightened and balanced conrods
2. Wedged, bladed, x-drilled & balanced crank
3. ARP head, rocker, conrod studs
4. 11 stud block

The cost of the APEC with these extras comes out to only £75 cheaper than the HOTEC kit, SO...

Do I go for the APEC with the extras, or the HOTEK?

Opinions welcomed

I have the avonbar hotek engine kit which was built by avonbar as i had heard fantastic things about avonbar and i decided they were the people who could build me a relliable engine. So far i have no complaints at all. Engine sounds fantastic and even though im only running low boost at the moment it still puts a big smile on my face. I know ian isnt as involved at avonbar now as he used to be but i still wouldnt look past avonbar. Theyre very helpfull after sales aswell.

without taking the lime light off avonbar, i would suspect if you asked around you could find it cheaper. if not in the economic climate you could haggle with the price
