yes, heard this at the weekend - apparently died of complications after an operation. Built some stunning cars in his time.

A colourful charater but not sure I would have liked to work for him!

Such a shame, he didn't even go out with a bang, I'm sure he would've wanted to die at 180mph or something.

its a wonder he wasn't offed by one of the many ex members of staff, he and his stooges treated them like crap! no surprise the plug got pulled on the series.
His outlook on work and staff relations was the same as my (ex!) boss.
Still sad for his immediate family tho.

Here for the craic..

I discovered after nearly 20years at the same place that life is too short to put up with shit like that.
I was joe dole for six months and then landed the first job i interviewed for :)
More money, less hours, better treatment, a multinational so the possibilities are endless, and a good bunch of guys to work alongside. :) :)

Life is indeed good.

I wonder if the guys at Boyd'snfeel the same? Will the shop close now the figureheads gone?

I dont think so Rich, Boyds legacy will live on. His son was head of one of the departments and he has plenty of help around him.

Duane (sp) always was the driving force of the workshop floor.

Yes, Their work conditions were not to everyones tastes, but the queen wouldnt work in my job :)

The shop is only about 30 minutes from where I live here in CA. So I can answer this one. The shop is staying open. The son has taken over. But whether his son will be able to live up to his Dad's reputation, only time will tell!

I met him once at a car show. He really was the cranky bastard you saw on TV. His protege, Chip Foose, is a much nicer guy in real life!

But Duane did not design those cars, that was Boyds job. Without one good designer the shop is dead, thats my taught anyway :)
