Who will know that it's a 1430cc without stripping it down?

Just build it so externally it looks like a 1275. This may mean that 1430 is out of your reach as you won't be able to fuel it with standard looking parts. Maybe 1380 is possible though?
Vegard is the man to help here.

The CC isn't a problem, retaining the fuel ignition whilst making some power is. Find an older car! :)

(referring to your 96 SPI quote)

its not allowed to put carbs on a 96 model SPI over here due to emissions.

If you have to retain the SPi set up, all is not lost, but you are restricted to choice of cam and using an ECU and injector off a Rover Metro GTa/ GTi. The ECU is identical in apearance. the outward apearance of the engine will be the same, though a K&N induction kit will benefit in this extreme.

A 1430 SPi can be a very good, driveble engine that will still pass emissions tests, as long as the cat is retained

Expect at least 100bhp and 100lbft with an engine that will not need to rev over 6800rpm, lol it cant anyway.

ok...

although i might be able to make it look like a 1275, it wont sound or perform as one...

i already have a K&N induction kit fitted, but where would i get hold of a metro gti injector and ECU??

thinking again, its not like there are all that many minis about, and every one i have heard sound different....

are you sure i wouldnt be able to use the standard injector and ECU? if the ECU needs tweaked i have access to all the equipment needed to do so...

Standard Cooper ECU wont cope with 100bhp 87lbft torque, even then it comes in at the ECU hard cut where the engine just stops *laughing*

Youc could fit a programable ECU like Megasquirt or VEMS into a standard Rover ECU case. Royal Pain In THe Arse!! Been there done that *laughing*

The Rover Metro GTi ECU is a direct swap with the Mini Cooper one. The benefits are that the ignition map is designed around a pent roof combustion chamber therefore less total advance. This is needed when you run a compression ratio of around 11:1 on the Kent 274 camshaft. The compression ratio is one reason you get decent numbers on the dyno. I actualy run 11.2 ish, but only ever used high octane pump fuel. I ran a programable ECU for a year due to the problems with the Cooper ECU. The power figure droped to 95bhp but the torque climbed to 101lbft, passed an MOT with flying colours! I then blew up the wideband lambda circuit on that ecu, but wanted to use the car for a Mini Event. Fitted a Metro GTi ECU. It drove as though it was meant to be, idled as it should.

So, knowing that the engine produced 100bhp in one way or another and 101lbft and the cooper ECU did not control the idle fueling at all and the Metro GTI ECU did not show any signs of problems, Id say it was the way to go.

Much of the sound is down to the exhaust, but if you retain the cat and fit a twin box system, its not exactly loud but it still set off car alarms as you drive past, LMAO, its very bassy :)

remember, you are restricted to the camshaft you can use with the SPi/MPi engines

Oh and its been a year since this *laughing*

Was hoping to get the 16v finished for this this weekend, but as things go, Jackman is standing in for me with his car. Be interesting to see the results of a fairly standard engine with the hottest injection cam available :)
