Would anyone be interested in a ally or steel one?

wont a metal one just pass the heat straight back on again????

think you need one which reflects heat away more like the original,
one of those turbo insulation kits might be a beter move

nope you'll see about 100 degrees c drop just from a single thickness of steel from one side to the other in terms of air temp.

Then you could always coat one side to reflect more heat etc etc

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

be cool to have a heatsheild and also somewhere to locate a 12v pc fan that can create and air barrier (between the turbo and base of heatsheild) for say 5mins after switching off....

I thought about that too iain...

but I couldn't find out the operating range a pc fan is happy to run in! Its going to get VERY hot back there and I don't think most pc fans will hack it.

But thats given me another idea!! hmmm anti-perc fan *happy*

Yeah i spent ages looking for a fan that would cope but there is no saying that the fan couldnt be mounted to either side and ducted in. be good if the shield was double skinned so that the air could be ducted into the space between and provide a cooling film.

It might as well just cool the bottom of the carb..

the old 5 gtt uses a fan to blow air at the base of the carb, and also cools the fuel lines

that engine bay is another hot example

Make sure you leave a hole/groove so you can get to the mixture screw, you don't want to be paying rolling road operators any more cash than you need to.

That should make life a little easier.

yeah i had to take a chunk out my std one to get to the mixture screw, even a nice hole to help you line it up would be good.

Just one thing, I understand 'fan' (monty turbos, R5GT, Uno turbo all had these) but what is an 'anti-perc fan'???
I'm guessing it's an abbreviation i've not yet figured out?

Perculation is the reason a hot carb won't start.
The fuel in the chamber starts to evaperate and fills the carb and inlet manifold, this is what causes the hot start problem.
(Not lack of fuel in the chamber as many belive)

The metro turbo uses the solinoid vent on the carb, to let the vapour out, but as most of you know they can have reliability problems so everyone seems to block them off.

I was thinking of fitting an anti perc fan in the wing, ducting it and thermostatically controling it. But decided I didn't want any more shite in my engine bay!

I think the ideal solution for a mini would be a solinoid that opens when switched on. (And powered by a timer on switch off)

BTW I would like one of those shields Alex!
