Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Right, get my new house either this friday or next and at long last have a double garage *happy*

Now, at work we use floor paint and it seems to do a reasonable job but after reading about it on the net not many people have that much sucess.

What options do i have? or is it all down to the prep?

I dont want to be doing it over and over again. The garage is 31m sq. and i dont want to spend a fortune, but anything will be considered should it last well.

Concrete floors are just too dusty.

I want to get this done the day i move in as fortunately i'm doing a px so get the keys to both houses for 7days *smiley* means i can do it before i move all my kelter in!

I've never had any problems with floor paint. Just don't do what my rollers have done, they've tiled the floor and whilst it looks very nice the smallest oil spill turns it into an ice skating rink.

Try vinyl, but not the slip resistant suff as any spilt oil/grease gets stuck in the 'grain' of the flooring. And with that, the old style 'cheap' style viyls without the anti slip stuff on is cheaper too!! In my old house, i had a polypropylene carpet down that lasted well. It was just a felt back carpet that i spray glued down. Couldnt be bothered painting the floor!!

its probably a good idea to use a floor sealant first and then paint a few coats over the top of that if you want it to last for a long time.

I bought a 20 litre tin from here over Christmas to paint mine and it's good stuff:

If it's bare concrete now, put a couple of coats of PVA thinned down about 4:1 with water over the whole floor first to seal it.

PVA it first as above, then get the floor paint down, mine has had 2 years of heavyish use and none of it has come up.

Use PVA first, i bought a couple of gallons from either Wickes or B&Q. Then leave it to dry for a while and paint it if necessary.

an alternative could be to line the floor with ply - its a lot warmer to lie on in the winter.

we bought ours from screwfix when i did the workshop at the back of my rents place and thats broken up, havent a clue what the paint was mind. It was sealed before painting aswell. In my new garage i've sealed some bits with primer and carpeted the rest with the old living room carpet.

Depends on the quality of the concrete too - mines painted but if I drop anything then the concrete is so soft and dry that it marks easily and obviously the paint can't protect that.
Going to try that Aldi stuff as at that price I can re-do it every now and again.

Best bet is to seal it before you paint it with some watered down pva (about 5;1) and then paint on top.
