Have updated the blog on the main site but thought I may as well update on here.

The mini went on the rollers yesterday, didn't really get near the figures Stuart had given me when the engine was built but I didn't really expect too much with a standard bottom end and single MPI injector.

I'm happy with how it goes on the road, but am starting to think about what else can be done to get a bit more out of it......maybe after the summer....

Here are the results;

nice curves there! isn't 38bhp alot of drag, or have I read that wrong?

It sounded a lot to me but there was no real comment made about it so i'm not sure what it's down to.

Chris, what diff do you have in yours? Im really confused over my top speed, its too low by a fair amount.

Still your car did sound really good and its got some nice figures.

As a thought, what sort of figure would straight cut drops and box reduce the power losses through the transmission?

That'll be the supercharger.

My thoughts are that 38bhp is pretty high even though it's got a supercharger. Transmission losses are usually measured on coast down so the supercharger is not really pumping any air and so should not be absorbing that much power. At the end of the day it's only numbers though, if it goes ok on the road I'd be happy!

The problem with superchargers is that they pump air at a set rate regarrdless of load (i.e. how open the throttle is). So if you are coasting down from 6000rpm it'll still need the same ammount of power to turn it.

I don't know what PSI you are running, but see the graph below for power consumption, lower than I imagined actually, between 5 and 10 hp.

Your friends car was lovley too, remember seeing it a few weeks ago and liking it but i wasnt in the mini that day as they followed me all the way to tesco ha ha.

Stuart was going to fit a 2.7 diff I think, I asked him to go with a 2.9 and that's what he put on the spec sheet when I collected the car.

So unless he got it wrong on there it should be 2.9.

Ha ha, maybe! I would have thought I would have found it by now having been trapped in numerous cabinets!

Thats the thing, your speed is right for the RPM, Diff, and wheels yet mine relates to a diff of around a 3.76 at top speed yet at 60 its the right rpm for the 2.95.

Strange gearbox!

Any ideas anyone?

I've read your other post on the VEMS mini forum.

The top speed will relate to the power/rolling resistance/drag coefficient of the car, not to a particular engine speed.

The power at the wheels is estaimted as enough to push the car along at 98 mph, presumably at about 5100rpm.

Well the printout says top speed 98mph at 6430rpm which is where the rev limiter is.

Could it be that the figures are wrong on the rolling road for speed?

Surely paul, the speed is just how fast the rollers were going at the time. so max bhp at 5940rpm, which equates to 114mph.

He took the car to 6100rpm during the run getting a max speed of 117mph.

It's not a prediction, just what was happening. I suspect a car with this power won't get to 117mph on the flat with no wind, maybe 110.

Wil, I was answering Jackman's question.

You are correct, however.

wil, your graph shows supercharger rpm, how does this relate to engine rpm? is the charger spinning faster?

Depends on what pulleys you have on. Might be faster might be slower might be the same.
