Hello all, recently joined TM because I am trying to complete a mini I last touched in 2001!

It has been so long I can't really remember the exact specification of the engine I built but I think it is the following:

1293cc block
Cross drilled wedged crank
omega 10cc pistons
turbo based camshaft (haven't a clue where from now!),
MED turbo head
ultra light steel flywheel and back plate
grey clutch
dellorto 45 carb (one 1/2 of the setup on a lotus esprit turbo)
custom made stainless steel plenum chamber,
SCCR gearbox (clubman set rings a bell)

probably a lot of other things but you get the idea!

For the last week I have been getting up oil pressure and ensure it still starts on the standard metro turbo dizzy setup, all runs ok which is a result, but the drop gears seem to rattle a little more than they should or I can remember. Checked over all the brakes and repaired the clutch master cylinder. Asumming the pictures attached ok, the engine layout has changed a little since 2001. I have reverted back to a side mounted 2 core radiator so have removed the rx7 intercooler. The intercooler is to be relocated at the front and I have removed the plastic headers and getting alloy ones welded so I can change the pipes entry and exit.

This weekend I have installed a megajolt system and managed to drive it out of the garage, wash off 7 years of saw dust, cement dust and whatever else was attached to it :)

Dashboard construction this week hopefully, my aim is to get it mot'd the end of the month.

In 7 years a lot has moved on with more and more people turbo charging minis, but I would think the carb setup is still a little unique-ish! :)

The picture flatters it really, it is in no way as nice as some of the TM members projects, with rust etc. appearing after being left for so long but it will be a bit of a laugh to get it on the road again!

Cheers,

Mat

Glad to see you got motivated ! Nice looking car. As for the drop gears rattling, are they SC ? If so you'll find they will chatter.

That's a bit different. Any ideas on power?

Not really any idea of power. My experimental turbo'd engine produced 102 bhp at the wheels before I took it off the road (running on SU, slightly modified head, standard MT camshaft, SCCR box). I would hope for at least that, but I have upgraded most of the parts on this new engine and will be running a bit more boost etc.

MOT aquired, first attempt (as it should really!). Managed to get the tax and insurance sorted, so have had a couple of test drives. Fuelling is miles out as expected, jets are as they came from the lotus. I have ordered a few more jets for now using information I have found on the web, just want to make it a little more driveable and put some more miles on it before I take it to the rollers.

Limited the boost to 1 - 2 psi at the moment, dump valve still turns a few heads - if they haven't already turned around because of the SC drops and gearbox :)

I have included a few more pics, the dashboard I quickly knocked up for the mot and the final engine configuration layout, chaps in work think it looks like a snake pit! *happy*

(Ignore the wiring hanging everywhere - that is all sorted now)
