I've had an idea that might help folks when searching for info on a certain topic.

That being that perhaps just mods(?) can add "tags" to technical posts, such as "intercooler" or "gearbox" and so forth to aid newcomers in finding info they may require?

Thoughts?

Why don't we edit the topic title so the search finds more. I think it's unlikely that a useful post about intercoolers doesn't contain the word intercooler to come up from a search.

True, but when searching for a popular topic you get hundreds of possible posts come up. I thought that by tagging the more useful ones they could be made to appear at the top of the list etc?

If the results were given priority that would be different.

IMHO the problem with the search function comes down to two things...

1 There are no obvious rules as to what the search string actually does nor guidance as to how best to optimise it, for example, it SEEMS as if when you put two words in the string, the search looks for those exact words in sequence. I haven't yet worked out if any wild cards get around this.
2 The search results are displayed in no obvious order, ie, don't appear to be in date order, lots of duplicates if more than one person has used the same word(s) in the same thread but on an individual post etc.

Also, with word searches without wild cards, you are at the mercy of people's spelling (of which some is appalling), not to mention the dreaded txt spk...

Just my thoughts, not criticism.

I have had a slight problem when searching, when you go back to the search after reading a post it says internet page has timed out, is it just my computer?
