Hi there,
I've been wondering if the R5 Turbo carb will be any good for mini? It's harder and harder to get the metty turbo thing (especially here in PL), so i thought it's worth asking.

What are other options? pressurized dellorto from Lotus or suck-through setup?

Oh, yeah, i forgot. I would get into 998 A+ probably with Bini SC, 5-7 psi boost to start with.

Cheers, Roman

If you're planning on a suck through system then you can use any carb you want, it doesn't need to be able to cope with pressure.

If using a blow through, then the GT carb I'm sure could be made to work fine.

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

blow through would be better option. I can use intercooler and some sort of dump valve/blow-off valve, which i couldn't with suck-through. Unless one like to have mist of exploding gases in engine bay.

Anyway suck-through is last option i was considering with forced-induction.

Thanks for the reply

The R5GT carb is at best, troublesome as i recall from the time when folks used to tune them. The SU is simplicity at its best y comarison.

But if all you can get is a R5GT unit....

If you can't get a Metty Turbo Carb, it's very easy to convert a standard HIFF 44 carb. Just another option.

People have figured out how to tune the 5 carb now rather than just wackin a dirty big main jet its a case of playing with the enrichment jets! However i would be converting a standard metro carb, it would be easier!

Hmmm... so with hiff 44 it's only a matter of getting service kit and some minor machining. Think i'll give it a try. Unless i get the real thing meantime.

Thanks
