Run without vacuum advance, block it off and put a screw in the plate so it cannot move, then just run with something like 25 degrees fixed advance. Curve may be out but a good RR will sort that. You can run any dizzy as they can be altered to give you what you want with the weights and springs.

it will have a stop so under boost it will just be against it thats all.

so with a turbo, would you want the timing retarded when on boost?

You need the advance to rise in the same way as you would with a nat-asp dizzy, but total advance to be less than a nat-asp.
With this in mind, I'd leave the springs alone in the dizzy, along with the primary (light) advance. What you want to do is limit the total advance in the secondary stage... Establish where the 'end stop' is on the moving plate, then add a few blobs of weld. As a guide - 5 degrees will be around 3mm at the end-stop - if i've done my sums right!!!

Locking the advance is all well and good for an engine on boost all the time.
Try running a road engine on it though, and you'll see lousy economy, poor throttle response (off boost), a turbo that glows under light throttle cruising, and an increase in engine temperature.
As i said though, fine for a race-car that's always on boost!

Sorry, mines always going to be on boost as its a fun car not really a road car as such so thats why i said lock it off *smiley*

all depends what you want it for

Even a 'fun' car will be more fun with a decent advance curve!

But the real answer lies with boost retard, and a dizzy with tons of advance!!!

TD .. mine runs 9 at idle and 19 while advanced

do these sound ok ? or should I be looking at changing my ignition timing ?

On the RRoad we never even touched this ; or did a dizzy swing

Could run some more advance to get the power up *smiley* Just be careful though, id have it done on a RR who knows what they're on with. Suprising they never changed it though.

exactly my worry !!
A dizzy swing at the end is always what I have done in the past ; at full revs wastching the BHP on the dial !!

I was very suprised they did not do it ; sounds like a bollx session dosnt it ????

sounds a bit of a waste of cash really. RR is all about optimisation (my my thats a big word this late on in the night!)

Wouldnt take it there again, oh well lesson learnt id say *smiley* atleast they didnt give you too much advance to melt things!
