I was thinking the other day about the upper mounts for the front shocks and every Mini I've worked on has suffered from stress cracks on the inner wings around the damper brackets, now with coilovers the force on the inner wings if going to be greater (at least by my understanding of suspension) so I was thinking about welding on some strengthening plates, has anyone tried this? or is it a silly idea?

Won't do any harm to be on the safe side. Try and seam weld what you can too.

I welded some 1.5mm thick plates over the orifginal mounts to stiffen them up
