I'm sure I've asked before and I've done a bit of searching on the forum but I can't find my original thread, so sorry for repeating myself.

I've got a nice Mk I shell coming soon and I'd like to turbo the engine (it's annoying me that I generally lurk here and I've nothing turbo'd to talk about :) )

I'm not after extreme power (yet!), reliability and drivability is the key to start with as we're taking the car on Mizen to Malin next year.

Also I want to keep the car standard looking and I don't want to modify the bulkhead as it may get used when we go to the Goodwood circuit revival next year.

I think most of the info I need is in the how to section, but can someone remind me what turbo/manifold etc. I need to avoid fitting the bulkhead box.

Cheers

Neil

PS Does anyone have any pics of a setup like what I'm after?

Hello Neil, are you keeping the 8-port as part of the conversion?

Hi Dan

No this is a straightfoward 5 port turbo.

Still thinking (and reading up). I think doing the Mk I will help when I come to tackle 8 port.

Are you talking about the Mirage Motorsport manifolds ? If you fit these you don't need to modify the bulkhead, you also need a T2 Turbo.

sorry to butt in..

you will need to change the fitment of that acuator.the little tab on the turbo needs to be cut in half and flipped so that the nipply like bit is at the top, then you need to mount the actuator on the rhs, not lhs, using a homemade bracket, i have done mine off the carb heatshield that i made,
ill take a picture for you

Yep ! My actuator is mounted the wrong way, but that's because i have the bulkhead box fitted so there is space to fit it this way.
As you don't want to cut the bulkhead then you'll need to mount it the other way as Greypride says.

Neil, i have some brand new T15's i can get my hands on. Apparently the same casing as a T2.

Be superb for a road car and say a nice 100/110bhp.

Very good price too considering they're brand new, a fair bit under half the price of a T2 or T3, ill have to check on the price but i reckon they're ?150 with actuator etc.

Just a thought, off a 2.3 TD frontera. Worth considering, i know i am with them being brand new!

Thanks for the replies and pics

Nice car Greypride *happy*

Iain, sounds like just the job. Was going to talk to you about sourcing the other bits I need anyway :)

Is the T15 physically the same size as the T2? Looking at Greyprides pics the turbo is very close to the bulkhead so I'd like to put some kind of heat shield in.

Cheers

Neil

it sits a bit closer to the engine now, i did a bit of rotation and some how its further away, or you could you an injection subframe as it sits the engine slightly further. theres a good finger and a bit gap now

actually if your using a mk1 then you couldnt use the injection subframe,

you could simply drill new holes in the subframe and move the engine further foward. But not too much, as it will give you more understeer

Hi Neil,

Remember me........my name is Paul, I have met you several times with Ally from Ni-minis.co.uk.

I did the mizen to malin in 02 with a yellow deseamed mini with viper strips....use to be a turbo motor. That run was excellent.

There is a load of us from the North doing it next yr and I am planning on taking my turbo mini, so would be interesting to meet and compare installations.

Paul.

a longer engine steady has given me much more clearence to the bulkhead now, still close obviously but theres significantly more space than there was in the pictures
