hello, have gone the strip down/powdercoat route with my subframes. Anyone know where i can get stainless nuts, bolts, and washers etc to finish it off. Was also thinking of rubber washers to avoid wrecking the paintwork (on a subframe??!! why do i bother) If not, advice on where to get some nice new bolts regardless of them being stainless or not would be great. Am in birmingham area.

Cheers, Karl

right now time for the annoying stupid bit, its been a while scince i got my hands dirty so u gonna have to bear with me

the ones i'm after are basically everything on the front and rear subframe. Now, are they metric or unf? i guess these boltup guys will do both. And how do i measure? say for example they are metric, do i just accuratley measure the size of the nut from the outside (i sould say diameter but they aren't round...' or is it the internal diameter, i.e the thread part? and how should i give them measurements for washers etc??

cheers guys

They will all be imperial, UNF. Nuts and bolts are referred to by the size of the round part. For example a bolt with a 1/2" head, had a 5/16" "round" part and is referred to as 5/16".

Not wishing to sound like a party pooper.

But generally stainless steel nuts and bolts are not strong enough for what you are intending.

I would get high grade zinc plated bolts myself.

Karl.

From an ease of removal policy at a later date, I'd use stainless ONLY between subframe and body, along with copperslip paste.

As the rest are subject to more severe loads, for all the rest, I'd use high tensile steel (zn plated if poss) for upper & lower arms, tie rods and ball joints at the front and for trunnion pin nuts, rear backplate and trailing arms at the rear.

Namrick do the UNF stuff you're after or there's 'Steve's Stainless' - he goes to the shows and is a Mini man.

You'll pay a bit more for UNF or UNC imperial stuff, compared to metric.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.
