International Bank Account Number

You'll probably have to talk to your bank about setting one up

They can do a bank transfer.

They need your IBAN, and SWIFT code, as well as address etc.

IBAN is as described above, a variation of sort code and acc number. It will be printed on your bank statements.

Swift code...call your bank and they will tell you.

This transaction WILL cost the sender money, and the receiver will also incur a charge. So ensure you make the seller agree to covering all costs from his end.

There will be a box to tick on the transfer form for him to agree to this, so that you receive the full amount you are due.

And finally, Banks are bastards. they never like making money transfers easy.
Last transfer I did abroad, cost me £25 to send, then a further £7 or so to cover the receiving charge.
So it might be cheaper to use Paypal.

If you have internet banking then sometimes the IBAN is listed when you log in and view your account details. I know it does on mine. If not it should be 2 mins for your bank to give you the data in the morning. I wouldnt take a cheque.

@Turbo Phil

Last march I bought some spare parts from Italy. I paid per bank transfer from my german bank to the seller's bank in Italy.
Currency: Euro to Euro.
I didn't have to pay any fee for the transfers.
But, using the IBAN and BIC/SWIFT code for bank transfers, you must have the exact details from the person and bank where the money should go to! And name, prename, street, postcode, etc.....
It's very important, to have the exact BIC/SWIFT code of the bank.
And, in one case, getting the BIC/SWIFT code from the seller in Italy, and phoned his bank in Rome asking, if the SWIFT code is
the right one, ...... the bank transfer failed.
Perhaps, the employee in this bank didn't know the actual SWIFT code.
As far as I know - since 3 months the bank transfers within the EU should ?/could ? be almost free of fees if using IBAN and BIC/SWIFT code.
regards

Recently I have seen ads on TV for cheap international transfers and I was going to look into it when I need to transfer some money.. Looks cheap but I wonder what the exchange rate is??

Maybe this one only works from USA but there may be others?
