Right, this is a problem i've needed to sort out for ages. Basically i bought a 5" Autometer tacho of ebay. It's apparentley new, & was still sealed in the original box.
But it under reads by a big amount. There are 3 ways to wire it, for 4,6 & 8 cylinder engines. I've tried them all & the way it says for the 4 cylinder engine reads the best, but is still way under.
It reads about 4,000 when i'm really at 6,000. Is there anyway of adjusting the thing internally ? Or is it goosed ? Can i send it somewhere for repair ?

have you looked for a small trimmer screw on ther phil

how do you know it is under reading, could it be your existing one that is over reading??

If it saying 4000, when you are doing 6000 thent that is classic selected to 6cyl not 4cyl. Perhaps the selector switch is not selecting properly.

If it was a bit out then I would say it is a crap tacho and just live with it or look for a trim pot, but those sort of numbers it is more than that.

you can get the insturctions as to what wires to connect/disconnect off the net. i did for mine.

my rev counter on my mini undger read at a curtain point because of the pod it was in slightly changed the shape of the gauge (was cheep) and only went up to 4.5k most of the time, somtimes went to 8...

I have the instructions. There is no switch to select 4,6 or 8 cylinder, just different ways of wiring it. I've tried every way.
Gues i'll contact Autometer & see if it can be fixed.
