Great Forum, you Guys all seem to enjoy a good laugh. Iv'e never built a turbo mini before so theres a lot to learn and it looks like iv'e found the place to do it. I've had a good read of the various threads and it looks like the turbo is a good plot for my 7 port project which started out as a 1380 NA but i just cant resist all that luverly Torque, so i think it's got to be a 1293 with Metro turbo pistons (would these be strong enough) phase 2 cam, Mirage manifold kit, T25 Hybrid (set at 14 psi), Megasquirt and single TB. Hmmmm. I'll put a post and some photies on when iv'e figured out how.

Minis and Oatcakes meet at the Bush in Silverdale last Sunday of the Month. Membership is free. They have their own website and they're pretty active, always on a run somewhere. Sitting in front of the box on Sunday and i heard the unmistakable A series growl and 10 of them came flying round the corner past my window. Ha!what fun.

Yea Joe, thought it might be a bit different, Those huge ports are just the job for shoving loads of gas in. Had a talk with Peter Vickers, He's doing an engine for one of MiniWorlds staff projects. He says he's had a lot of problems getting it to work, have you had any yet?
whats your engine spec?
Minisport are running a fuel injected NA their RR printout shows a shade under 170 brake but thats with a VP8C cam.

Would be interested to know what mr vickers has to say,

I think in a NA setup you need to run a very hot cam to get abny kind of gas speed though the inlet ports, especialy with the pre minisport castings which have bigger ports, with forced induction when on boost the air will hopefully not try to reverse so much due to being pushed in one direction.

Spec wise my engine is a minisport casting buit up by Stuart Gurr using 37x31 valves and has a 24cc chamber (about as big as the 7 port will take)

Block is a 1380 with 10cc powermax's and a Kent 266, this is the engine that was in the car and will be used to get some base mapping done. I will then swap to a fresh bottom end, hopefully with some extra tweeks.

Have made my own exhaust manifold and inlet, and the turbo is a gt25v which is a bit of an experiment.....

injection is megasquirt, think that about covers it really,

I have some wireing to do and some fuel ines to run then I can start the engine, this has been the situation since jan as other stuff keeps getting in the way at the moment.

Oh and chec the thread in my sig!

Well Mr Vickers started to list his problems, mentioned the large ports also the spark plug holes are very close to the water ways and if you need to counterbore to get the plugs to reach the chamber it is just too easy to bore into fresh air. The third problem was Rocker gear fouling he had to fit spacers beneath the pedestals to cure it, I couldn't quite figure that one out. At this point his Accountant appeared so could not complete the conversation. He did invite me to call back and further discuss, which i will do and get the low down on the rest. I'll let you know the outcome. I did phone minisport and they said the plug holes are already bored to suit the plugs they supply which i think are a motorcycle type. When i measured the length of thread to reach into the Chamber is was 25mm, and i dont recall normal plug threads being that long.
You say the max chamber size is 24cc, is this due to there not being enough meat around the chamber walls to carve a large enough chunk out. When i do 5 porters i like to cut the walls a fair way back and was going to go this route with the 7 port. I think i may need to do a little poking around with the bent wire before the grinder comes out to play. 25 - 26cc is about what i would need for 11cc dished Omega's by my calcs. Thats at 8.2:1 with a planned 14psi boost

Ok, good info there,

I counter bored mine myself to take 19mm reach plugs from various motorbikes, I could only find 1 plug 25mm long, and that wasn't available en many heat ranges. I had a good long look ant it seemed that the waterways wen't too close to the plug, I think Paul wiltshires head is an original AKM head so maybe the casting is different there, I know Stuart mentioned that mine looked quite duifferent to the AKM's he had seen internally.

I didn't have any probs with the rockers, but the head stud holes were quite large and allowed the head to be moved slightly on the block, i guess in an exreme case you could get an issue where the push rod could make contact.

24cc was the max that Stuart at Vmax felt comfortable going to due to the fact the casting wasnt fantastic quality, as he's chambered 5 port heads to 35cc I was happy to trust his judgement, it just means i'll have to pop mu pistons in a lathe at some point.

Oh also I wanted to keep the beak in the chamber so i guess you could get it out a fair bit more by chomping that out.

Wow! been reading your build thread Joe. Thats some amount of work, some clever engineering too.
Just spoke to Minisport bout the plugs and chamber volume. You can take them to 27cc by raising the chamber roof by 040". so thats one problem sorted. The plugs they use are NGK PMR8A which they claim work well but if i raise the chamber roof it will unshroud the plug further so i wont need to counterbore the plug hole although they say there is no risk of cutting into the water jacket at that point.

Hi Stefaz, thought i'd seen the name before.
No havent been to meets for ages. Been trying to get to one but there always seems to be something else i've got to do. Been working away from home for a while but planning to get involved in the club again. I think Himleys coming up isnt it? have to get the min sorted and get to A34 car park for the run down. Missed doing the Oatcake snake. Ha Ha!
