The Porsche Cayenne (sp) i have seen daily for the last 6 months has got away with black and silver.

This is a common mis-understanding - historic vehicle status is upto 31st December 1972 (plus a little lea way). Black and silver plates are 'legal' up to 1 August 1973 - the point at which the age identifier was changed from L to M.

i thought you could have black and silver plates on any age of car, as long as the car has a private plate from a car of the right age. |
