I know some of you are dry decking your engines. I wondered if you would be kind enough to tell me the reason you are doing this.
Are you doing the block and the head?
Are you using a gasket with no waterway holes?
Regards
Dave

Dave, you need to block off any water passages from both the head and block,, this prevents any water getting to the gasket or cylinder preasure reaching the water system.

simple really,

hi carl
so it's to stop the cooling system pressurising if the head gasket fails?
If so I need to do both head and block and a gasket with no waterways is of no use?
Dave

yes been there done it , now have it fully dry decked, so no water way preasurisation if HG fails,, down side is there are little clues if the HG does go, you have to start looking for leaks.

Carl can you turn me up some similar adapters and I'll pay cash. Two the same with 32mm stubs, and no fixing holes as im not sure how many or where im going to position them.

How much?

I was going to buy that Swiftune kit, but seeing as you have offered *wink* :)

Thanks in advance :)

i have heard this before on another forum yrs ago but cant remember the response so i'll ask here.

would it be worth fitting something like the swiftune dry deck kit (or alike) but not actually blocking off any waterways, basically just adding another route for the water system to improve head cooling?

not really ,unlerss you block off either the head or block waterways, if you dont it will still try to thermo syphon, by blocking off the waterways you will force the water along the block and up into to head through ths link pipe, how effective using a normal pump is debatable , but i have used this very method on my twinnie for years.

What do you mean, dry decking and a mechanical pump? Why shouldn't that work?

because a mech pump is not the most efficient, electric pumps are a lot better surely,

All depends how hot your engine get and what you use your car for, a mechanical pump would have no chance keeping my engine cool

What head gaskets are available with blocked waterways? Might give it ago.
Mine currently has reduced waterways on the dizzy side and opened up on the turbo side, getting greater volume of water. Not sure if it makes any difference, but had no problems.
