I know 3.1 diffs are sought after but this is a bit steep.

They're not rare at all, every 998 with the exception of the racing green and flame red had one from the mid '80s 'til the last of the 998s.

I have at least 4.

Maybe it was just the racing green then, that had a 3.44

I was watching this as I am looking a taller diff.

http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=218590

But what a laugh, I may just go round a few local clubs and see if one turns up. If I get a few I may ebay them!

P.S., judging by my recent purchases off ebay, IT IS ALL RUBBISH! I have yet to buy something that is actually in useable condition so I can't know what anyone would by a used diff for £90 when you can get a new one for £25 more!

I bought an "excellant condition" head- serious valve seat recession and worn guides

A "6 month old" R5 Turbo- 2-3mm radial and in/out play

An "excellent condition" turbo technics stage 1 turbo- 1-2mm radial play and enough oil in the exhaust housing to lubricate a large ship

Rant over...

Interestingly, I have bought about 5 A+ 998s in my life and have never got anything other than 3.44's with them?

Last one I sold had a 3.1....my spare has 3.44. Thats seems the most common.

Right as soon as I get a chance to strip the box I'm putting my 3.1 on the bay.

All very interesting. I wonder if it's possible to find out what enguines had what diffs, I guess the metro 998s had lower diffs for a start.

I heard that the Racing Flame/Flame Red had a 3.44 final drive to make them feel nippier than the other 998cc models.

All my 998 boxes have/had 3.1s.

Sturgeo's Flame certainly revs higher than Axel's 30.

I was thinking about bidding on this, but the price got silly:

Well, you know, if you need a 2.95CWP, and can't find one, then paying a premium will get you one.

Nothing wrong in that I reckon.

I recall one of the Major suppliers can supply 'new' CWP sets for 120-140 quid however? Not overly sure how the quality / robustness compares to the OEM part however.

Min-its sell them £120ish, MS about £145. It's a lot but at least it's not ebay seconds.
