I know 3.1 diffs are sought after but this is a bit steep.

They're not rare at all, every 998 with the exception of the racing green and flame red had one from the mid '80s 'til the last of the 998s.
Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

Interestingly, I have bought about 5 A+ 998s in my life and have never got anything other than 3.44's with them? On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:

All very interesting. I wonder if it's possible to find out what enguines had what diffs, I guess the metro 998s had lower diffs for a start. Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

I heard that the Racing Flame/Flame Red had a 3.44 final drive to make them feel nippier than the other 998cc models. |

Well, you know, if you need a 2.95CWP, and can't find one, then paying a premium will get you one.
