Locking up the gear box on rebuilds

Just had to make a lock tool so we could lock the gearbox up so we could undo the nuts. I'm sure we don't normaly have to.

Normally lock the gears by interlocking em.

i used 3/4 of a lcb to lock my crank to undo my bottom pully bolt at there was no flywheel on, worked perfectly it fit really well in and kept the engine steady and inplace. ill have to get a picture of it in action :)

heres the tool i had to make, it's not Pretty, made in a hurry.
it locks the drop gears up a treat as we couldn't stop my one spinning.

That was quick photography.

I can see how it works. Can it take the torque?

I tried jamming a screwdriver in my gears to lock them and it snapped before i could even get to torque

the 90 degree piece couldn't, so the other 2 lumps of metal sorted it out.

So can any one thing what possible reason why i've had to make this tool??

they is a very good reason, as you know been doing it for a while now, (with Hoggy), well more hoggy, but I do my bit.

Any more thoughts?? before i tell you the reason

You tightened and secured your block to the gearbox and then "noticed" you had forgot to tighten up your first motion drop gear?

Stripped one of the gears, so youve got nothing to lock up?

Nop, the gears are sort of ok, well all teeth present. I see your thinking. Your all so near. Think why else the box wouldn't lock up, the correct way. I told hoggy and he guest straigh away. (jammy bugger lol)

Your results for the boost you were running were very good me and ray thought. i bearly made 190 bhp @ 22 psi! believe me that's crap, and how it was all last year, I do know why though.
