Ok, help me out here. These were common in europe, but over here the 12-tooth socket drive bits are not... What i need to know is the correct term for them. Is it STAR, Double Torx, or what?

I have a set, but am trying to describe them to guys who are attempting to dismantle a VW transmission so they can purchase a set of their own, but am greeted with blank faces...

any information on them and historical information (why they are here when TORX seems to work well) would be appreciated... :)

ive come accross those pin-in-torx before, what a pain they were, had to use mole grips and a hammer in the end as halfords didn't have any (megane ECU cover if i remember correctly)

Hey Dave, Pretty much anyone over here should know what you mean when you ask for Torx. You should be able to get em at SEARS. Thats where I got my set when I needed to work on the Ex's Mercedes.
