hi, i want to run 7-8 psi of boost. iv been advised here in the past to run a standard metro turbo actuator with under bonet bleed valve. i will soon be placing an order with avonbar for a few items. would it be worth just getting their 8psi actuator to save messing around? this is my 1st turbo build. am happy with na builds, but this is new teritory.

also, who is the best person to get a fuel pressure regulator from? many thanks

If you plan to run more boos in the future (and who dosen't?) then an 8psi actuator is a good idea.

You can sometimes ger a bit of wastegate leakage with a bleede valve which can affect the way the boost rises. So if you have the money a properly rated actuator is a good idea.

I wouldnt bother with either, im running 7.5psi with the standard actuator and it still has some adjustment to go. just shorten the acuator rod by winding it towards the turbo.

That's a great idea Matt.

my standard actuator was too weak to add much preload to. Also when using a bleed valve the boost would spike and drop right off again.

Using an uprated actuator now and its tons better. It's not a fancy avonbar one though.

thats intereting ric, by saying it was too weak does that mean you couldnt get higher boost figures? Also what is meant by spiking? loose boost?

I mean after i opened the bleed valve to up the boost, all the would happen was the initial surge of boost would get bigger and then tail off. So it was shoot up to 12psi momentarily and settle down to 7psi. Couldn't get it to settle any higher.

Put one with a better spring in (possibly from an escort rst) and wound the pre load up a bit and it boosts smoothly to 10psi and holds it throughout the rev range. Tons better... :)
