Just out of interest - what sort of boost pressure does it take to hit the majic 200 bhp barrier??

And

What sorta engine specs do you run?

I think that this is something that you are not going to get a straight answer on as these boys have spent a lot of time doing it.
They are probably happy to give the odd clue but don't expect anymore!
Boost is not just the answer otherwise every man and their dog would have 200bhp Minis!

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Its mainly an attention to detail i reckon that gets you most power, along with the selection of the best components *smiley*

Think you'll find most run around 20psi to hit the 200 barrier or close to it.

Its a case of keeping the pistons in one piece and also optimising the fueling and ignition and your away, well sort of!

then there is the clutch/box combo to make sure its spot on.

if 20 psi = 200bhp then 1 psi = 10bhp , then i have 220 bhp , excellent.

Everyone knows that instructions only have to be read if the thing doesn't work....

Yeah that's what Calver reckons, but that's absolute bull*shit.
I bought my Gp-A stuff off a guy who built these engines for a living, & believe me they ran more than any 16 psi ..........

Proven 200+bhp & Avon Park 05,06,07 Class D 3rd place

Yes I find it hard to see how it would get the power from 16 psi, however any thing is possible I guess, I have no idea of the spec of them so who knows. one thing we do know and that is, they won't drive as smooth as are ones and tick over at low revs I wouldn't have thought!

As for boost to get the 200 bhp mark, I agree with Phil 22 + should get there, if every thing around the turbo is up to a good spec.

Make sure the turbo is in good nick as running that sort of boost through a blower that I'm sure wasn't designed for, will take it's toll soon enough.
One of my turbos lasted over 2 years before a replacement item was needed, so they can last a bit if there are good to start with, (it was second hand to).

As for the engine specs, there is nothing really different for them to a good N/A engine.

Gas flowed head. (lower C/R)
Intercooler.
Normal electronic ignition will do the job power wise.
turbo camshaft, (Avonbars seeming to be the fav)
Good quality pistons. (omega seeming to be the fav) cast or forged
Under crown piston cooling some people like.
Grey diaphragm & Race clutch plate.
SC Gear box and drops.
And MANY Rolling roads to sort it all out.
To Name a few.

It's not to hard getting that power (just keep turning the boost up and you'll get there!), what's hard is holding every thing together for a season, with out touching it.

it's now bloody late so I'm off!

Looks like Matt has hit the nail on the head!

All the componants be of good quality to last, by last i don't mean tens of thousands of miles.

There is also alot of power to be released through a good exhaust system.

Lots of attention to detail must be paid when choosing componants and a certain amount of trail and error.

Unless you have unlimited cash, time and your own dyno you won't do it over night.

...I'd imagine.

220 bhp from a relatively mild A series i dought very much.
