Hi, what is the highest psi i can run a standard metro turbo at safely?

Also how easy is it to fit a waste gate to one?

Thanks, Robbie

10ish PSI with an intercooler and fueling set up proper. Whats wrong with the wastegete you have?

The limit is the compression ratio, with an IC you could run 10psi, or 12 with an IC and mapped ignition.

just dropping the CR by 0.5 or 0.6 would make it much easier/safer to run beyond 15psi. at which point you might want to consider upgrading the diff.

yes you could, but if you have a standard head then it would be just as easy to have the chambers made larger. Ask BENROSS for a quote to do the work.

PM BENROSS hes the man when it comes to heads.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

i had a go at moding my own head. athough not really suitable for high psi use(il be sticking to 8psi).

started with an austin 1300gt head. stripped it, cleaned it, ported and polished it, removed casting marks from conbustion chambers, refaced it, reground the valve seats, used the larger 1300gt inlets, new valve stem seals. thinking of putting a+ exaust valves in instead of the a series ones. think thats about it. the casting already has 11 studs and double springs as standard. cost me about £30 all together including purchase price. Though benross work looks to be a very high quality, know a lot of people here run his heads with a lot of power.

What sort of power would I be looking at if i ran a metro turbo with an IC and lowered compression and running at 15psi?
The engine has not long since been rebuilt.

I think Alex B's Frog is in that spec and is about the 140 banana level. Bear in mind you will need straight cut drop gears and could be on the limit for your standard gear set at that boost level. It starts to get expensive at that point!

Resident Cylinder Head Modifier

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

the limiting factor is the clutch first this will start to slip around 12 psi.....ish and.. then the drop gears and then the diff are the next weak links in that order
without lowering the compression you are doomed to head gasket failure and possible piston terminal damage if you rune more than 8 psi without intercooler on a standard dizzy

I think i will probably invest in s/c gears anyway and at the same time fit a new diff. What sort of clutch would be best suited?

For that setup you will need a pre verto with a grey spring and ap race clutch plate or similar.
