When you say struggling to get reverse is it that you cant get over there with collar lifted or you cant pull it down to get it in gear?

Sounds like you are running out of throw, .. Normally I would say the engine is "too far away" as when you pull the stick back the rod goes forward.... strange when the whole point of the quickshift is to amplify the throw.

Maybe check your rubber mountings for the gear stick box? if they are loose/sloppy the whole box would shift back when you tug on the stick, pulling the assembly away from the engine..

It isnt something daft like the rod being upside down, i once did this.

I had to reduce the size of the ball and make the pin lift all the way but no problems like yours, Its actually working well.

Maybe try levering the gearchange assembly forward a bit and if it goes into gear better then something is preventing the rod from going forward enough. However its strange, if I remember correctly there was plenty of spare movement forwards and backwards.
