realistically, what am I looking at paying out, I know its one of those "what do you want the car for" senarios but would just like a bit of feed back from those of you that have recently built a bottom end, either 1293, 1310, 1340, 1380, and who supplied the parts.
I have searched but not much luck.
Many thanks in advance.

Im happy to do as much as possible, just wanted an idea of price for parts, and machining so I can run a reliable unit, my other option is trow my 998 block back in and run the turbo on that.
Cheers

I had my block offset-bored and centre main cap work done by Scholar which isn't too far from you, at a very reasonable price.
I only wanted the machining work done by them (all the "rebuild" as such, I'm doing myself) but I got the impression when I was in there that they rebuild engines as well as just doing machine work.
Might be worth giving them a ring ???
Rod.

EDIT
Price for offset boring (to my own dimensions, so a bit out of the ordinary) and machining the centre cap (again, the way I wanted it done which took a bit longer than normal) was about £140. I bought the pistons from Australia (as advertised in the "for sale" on this forum), about £100 including shipping.

I have used schollar many times in the past and there work is top rate! Cant fault them! would happilly use them over any local firms. Was more concerned with prices of pistons and bearings to make a reliable (lol) unit. money is tight at the moment due to house purcase so weighing up cost of rebuild against fitting the 998 i have.

Bearings are not expensive, however pistons can be up to £600 if you want forged ones.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

pistons can be had for around £200 notes though that do a very good job. many people use the minispares mega pistons and then machine the crowns. I know JF and TD do/did.

IIRC mega pistons are about £140

well shane yes scholars are good they make a lot of race engines ect there. i get all my boring ect done there.

personally i would go straight for accrilite 1293 piston set although they are expensive but a very very good, and will last years . i wish i had gone that way.

im not to keen on the mega range at the moment as i have found that the rings are a bit dodgy with there clearances ect. eg oil control ring with a gap of 50 thou is some how way to big.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

Appreciate the comments guys, Accrilite are my personal choice, but due to buying a house, money is tight, I need to make a compromise, but dont want to cut corners and be in the same position again in 6 months, I know reliability comes with a bit of cost.

Just an idea, make a list of what you need. Then people can comment on costs.
Recently had flywheel/backplate resurfaced, crank checked & journals polished with complete bearing/thrust set £120.

Yes cast omegas or MS megas are the cheapest and seem to have been used on some fairly serious engines. However some have had probs with the MS megas recently i think?

get a set of the AE 21253's, morspeed will do them for £185 with a 13cc dish machined in them.

I've been running the same ones for the last 3 years with an 11cc dish at 15psi and i can't fault them. I think Nic used to use them aswell till he got all fancy *laughing*

indeed as milamber has said make a list of what needs doing.

i think med are reasonable.

275 quid for

a re core
reface the block
new cam shaft bearings fitted.
drilled and tapped for 11stud fixing.
new oil way plugs.
acid dipped and washed.
and painting.

im going to see how much they will charge for enlargements of the push rod holes and drilling for under crown jets will be. as well ill get back to you.

just need to save up some more for my crank and rods.

SC billet bits, hurmm nice!
and acccralite

however if its actually building the thing your worried about i think rob walker will do that for around 70 pounds.

Right how does this look for parts (bearing in mind its not a high output motor)
Cam followers 2a13
cam bearings aec3046
Thrusts aew2136
Mains vp91120-00
Big ends vp91306-00
Pistons Ae 21253
I have just used std size bearings as a guide, wont know what I need till the engine is out.
Richard, last time you used schollar, what was alan charging for bore work, and journals>?
