Following my first rally with the supercharger i've recieved a letter from the MSA telling me I cannot have the car logbooked.

This is down to the engine retaining the original type of induction.
It looks like i'll have to go down the turbo route as its ok to use an engine from another production car.

Never thought the rules were so strict for stage rallies.

The question now is which turbocharger do I use?

The engine is 1330 with low compression forged omegas and vmax scart 29cc head.
It currently produces 150bhp but can handle more (75 shot of nos at Santa Pod last year).

Anyone bought a turbo from China or Japan, they certainly seem cheap on ebay, just a bit worried that i may pay the money and never recieve the goods.

the chinese turbos have been known to go pop in a nice fashion and normally say bye bye to your engine.

Not worried about class, I have a 1.7x capacity penalty for running forced induction so over 2 litre.

I don't have the budget to win a rally even local stage events have ex WRC cars and 50k middleton escorts. I just want to get out in a quick mini and have some fun. We did that last time, overtook some 2 litre escorts and had great feedback, I just want to keep doing it.

Its not a case of being tight with money for the turbocharger it just seems that brand new turbos are to be bought from other countries at half uk prices.

If there is a quality issue then I would spend more for the correct item.

I know there tightning up on engine changes, I believe this starts with bike engines and engine placement.
I'll have a look on the rally forum site but converting from supercharger to turbocharger is quite an easy change and will be ok for this year.

The Chinese turbos have a bad reputation for quality and you should avoid.

Warwick.

that couldnt be more true will. we had some copy T25 turbo's at work and the play in the shaft side to side was stupid. only good thing they had was they do away with the cirlclips holding on the compresser housing.
worst iv seen was a band spanking new from switzer turbos and was scraping the housing, yay

Brand new or used GT range, arent that expensive.

If you want to buy new, buy from a reputable US vendor or something. Avoid the cheap Chinese junk.
