Hi all,

I have a '94 Mayfair, and although it's not Turbo I am going down the MJLJ route and just need a bit of advise for Trigger Wheels/Crank Dampers.

It is a 1330 A+ Engine and the Crank Damper is past it's best- all the rubber has perished and cracked.

I've been told the 'S' Damper setup is a better one to go for (less harmonic vibrations and hence better reliability and crank stress).

Has anyone ever fitted a Trigger wheel to an 'S' setup? If so any piccies?

Also been looking at Swiftunes Steel Crank damper for around same price as 'S' setup from Minispares.

I did try and see if anyone did an uprated Crank Damper with a built in Trigger Wheel (machined in) but could not find anyone who makes them (Swiftune, Kad, Specialist Components etc).

Any suggestions/recommendations?

Cheers,

think MED makes one. I have machined the trigger wheel into the outer ring on the S damper set up. Works fine.

Is that MED one actually a damper pulley though ??? Or just a lightweight pulley. It isn't clear from their photo or description.

The reason it intrigues me though is that they have chosen to put the trigger teeth on the back of the pulley (like I chose to do with my trigger wheel) rather than the front where most people seem to mount their trigger wheel (or have the whole of the front of the pulley machined).

Back to your point (Ian) about the rubber on your current one being cracked, I found exactly the same on my two A plus ones, but I had some earlier 1275 proper damper ones (plain 1275, not "S", nothing fancy) and the design is quite different with a thicker damping section and the rubber in a stepped annulus, and the rubber on them is perfect even though they are a lot older than the A plus ones. So I have mounted my trigger wheel (on the back of) one of them and binned the A plus perished ones.

The rubber on the A+ ones can look quite bad, but if you take a sharp stanley knife and run it around the rubber cutting off the very top layer, in the majority of cases you can see that the cracks are only on the surface and superficial.

the MED one is the pulley to which the S damper is bolted. so it has no damper on on the pics!

...which would explain why the trigger teeth are on the back !!!
So why don't they say so in the description or photo :)
