I have a pair of johnk's alloy billet rear hubs.

I usually just tap the bearings and wheel studs in with a hammer until they are fully home..

Is this ok to do with the alloy billet type? or should i be looking at an alternative method?

On a drum, I normally use a socket & hammer. Lightly tap, don't go mad on it.

If you warm the (alloy) hubs with a heat gun the bearings will go in a lot easier.

mainland europe near ze germans

Oven at 100-120 celcius (to be shure not to cause trouble with the heat treatment)

do that with gearboxes as well with the bearings in the freezer

i think you will find that the bearings will need very little froce to push them in.

when i went to do mine they went in very easily, so i emailed john to find out.

"Hi Andy - bearing fit loctite is perfect for the job - the tolerance is designed to be a light press fit, not a heavy fit like cast iron as this would "tear" the alloy - you're right some bearings are better fits than others but a smear of bearing fit will be perfect.

Cheers

John"

he dosn't need to really, its a simple enough job, just warm the hubs up[ boiling water will do the job] use a bit of locktight as John suggests , simple really,

Blimey, have these been in my garage that long!

Fitted then tonight, all above tips perfect.

Only thing is that I can't get the cap back on to seal the front. anyone else manage it?

Go in and out of the old steel ones nicely.

Humm. Well for the use the car gets I know it won't be a problem. But I'd rather keep the bearing dry. And it looks a bit bobbins with it not fitted.

Didn't somebody recently get some plastic trailer hub nut covers that where a snug fit? Just need a small amount turning of them. Might work for you.

After a bit of measureing the SC hubs have an ID of 51.2 mm, the caps are 52mm OD.

I have ordered two 51mm caps from a trailer place.
