Its a horrible job, need to take loads apart to get the gearbox out, don't know what the book time is but I'd say more than 4 hrs.

I got a clutch put in my citroen HDI last year and it was about £350, which I though was good for a 3 plate clutch.

The first garage I went to wanted £600.

was quoted £410 at one place, and £360 at another, maybe this isnt so steep then?

nic, you will appreciate this one....

ended up at £285

its not my car but a friends (of the nice female variety) and she'd asked me to get it sussed for her as she hasnt a clue, so me being the knight in shining armour willingly obliged, anyway...

she picked it up 20 mins ago and paid the fella, and has just rang me having had to get it towed back to said garage, as apparently the cam belt has snapped a mile down the road...totalling her engine

i know the 2 problems are unrelated (but being a girl she probably doesnt), anyway as soon as i answered the phone i realised she wasnt as impressed with me as i was expecting...!

basically, i doubt i will be getting a thankyou card for my efforts...or anything else for that matter...

oopps, sometimes you can never win and some people can never see that its a genuine co-insidence just see that it was fine before and then after you/they worked on it it broke.

shame but you get it alot, see it alot in our garage. the best one was we tinted the windows on some guys truck and 4 days lkater came back and said "ever since you done my windows ive got an exhaust blow, did you cut my exhaust or something??" F/O was the answer to that one!!

Ah, hard luck.

The weirdest one I ever had was a guy at works wife's Mazda MX5. It alledgedly hadn't been serviced for 4 years, and when I started taking things like the air filter and plugs out I could quite believe it. It ended up needing discs and pads all round, and all filters and fluids. When all that had been done it really was so much better to drive.

She got it back and then made her husband drive it about for a week as "she didn't trust it now it had been messed about with"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats not good at all.

I had a 95, 1.8 16v clio and it was bad enough getting anyone to work on it , its engine out job to do a clutch on one of those.
