After working as a panel Beater at Aston Martin for 18 years come September, I was made redundant yesterday.
With the advent of Vanquish, DB9 and Vantage, panel beating has become less and less needed in Works Service and the 3 remaining Panel Beaters were given a (rather good) separation package.
Im still employed until the end of the month but am on gardening leave but Im calling it garage leave.
Just thought Id let you know

Paul

I seriously doubt it!

Sorry to hear it Paul thats really crap - do you still have the "other"business on the back burner you can get going again?

hope the redundancy pay is good

A rather good seperation package and a months 'garage' leave is at least some compensation.

Good luck in whatever you do next.

I guess it was inevitable that making cars by hand was going to end, mores the pity.

Still a man of your talents must surely be able to take this as an opportunity. Pukka panel beating is a dying breed and an amazing skill to have.

bad news, mate. Good luck finding work soon, you have some great skill there, but I guess there is not many people who can afford to pay you. Will you go back into making the sprints?

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

Sounds like the end of an era for one of the final few hand built cars...

As long as you've come out of it ok.

All the best, i'm sure anywhere would snap you up! although i bet there is more call for the work you do in places like the states with all the custom stuff than in the uk.

Well, you can hold your head high and say you had a place in the last, small batch of panel beaters working at Aston. That is a testament to how well you were clearly thought of. Times change / things progress - at least you don't seem overly bitter about it...

Time to treat yourself to some new tools?

Ive got a few opportunities to consider and quite a nest egg to tide me over at the moment. Self employed isnt a no no so theres a possibility of Wiginton Sprint rising from the ashes again but the motor trade is dead in general.
Id like to work in a pet shop, feeding fish and stroking rabbits for a living, or a dustman, they only work one day a week .LOL

Paul

I seriously doubt it!
