According to this chap it was a certain Midlands based engine tuner, I don't think it was. Good video though.

A French guy back in the early 90's was certainly the first to mount the head on an A series block.

It was the Greg in Canada/US first in the late 80's - the 8v head on a 850ish cc motor

then it was a young french engineer working in england - at Southern Carbs! in the early 90's with a gear driven 1000cc 16v screamer - later belt driven.

then Madmatt running on the floor in May 06? 1275 cc 16v

then yourstruly in June 06 with 1380 16v

then jimster later in o6 - 1293 16v turbo

then yours truly in jan 07 with 1293 8v

etc,etc,

JK

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

He's taken all the oil return out of the front plate and into the tappet cover.

Most people follow the SC build guide and fit a fitting into the existing oil drains after welding in a bung. Also use the return on the front plate.

what are your thoughts on the power of the mini shown in the video, 170bhp from a NA engine, impressive, what power did yours make John before you went turbo?

I'll have a look at the vid tonight - is it a proper engine dyno or that bench test jig thing?

mine was 165 bhp @ 8200 ish, 100+ lb/ft torque from 3700 - 8750 - from a very "correct" rolling road. Ticked over at 950 rpm and passed all current emmisions regs. Comparing the graphs with a kad stg 3 it had it beat all but at the very top end - mid range torque of the kad was way down.

be nice to compare it.

- ah yes I remember when yours was running now.lol!

JK 1293 turbo 16v to be fired up pretty soon!

Herefordshire

I have a may 1996 issue of miniworld that talks about a frenchman called Bruno Rouille who worked for southern carburetters.
It says in there that he saw an 8v fitted in france, but doesnt mention earlier people

leeds/wakefield.

lest not get carried away with the old HP tosh,
we all know that dynos are not much more than ego massagers.

and besides it was me who first fitted a bmw head to the a series block,i just don't like to talk about it, made 400 hp, but i lost the video of it on my own specially built rubber band dyno,
so just take my word for it,lol
