does anyone know how strong a 1980 1275gt block is compared to a turbo block????

The a+ webs are suposedly there to make the blocks more ridgid. But ive head BL skimped on materials in the 80's and therefor the blocks are made or worse metal than the a blocks from 70's.

In other words i dont know/.....

in a more technical manner , i have used an A+ block with no problems what so ever.

Everyone knows that instructions only have to be read if the thing doesn't work....

A+ turbo and late A+ blocks all had the "turbo" type main bearings...
that is to say the bottom bearing is solid and the only the top is groove.

so stronger

i would always build using late a+ blocks. Usually very cheap from a metro *smiley*

If it is cheap enough, then sure...

I've never known anyone break a block, unless a rod has let go or something...
Depends what you want to achieve.

Rumour has it the 'GT' cranks are superior to the Stock A+ ones (but not neccesarilly better than the 'turbo' crank I bet!).
Again, these are all rumours and nothing more (until someone posts credible evidence to the contary) so should be taken at face value...

yeah, but 5 minutes with a dremmel can turn central bearing locations into the offset type...

or an hour or so in the machine shop!

Not sure if the last GT's had the 's' close ratio box Alex....

If so, then he deffo got a bargain - last one i saw went for over ?50 for an unknown condition (which probably means goosed)!!! Known good ones even more!

Its not hard to find out thou TD..

And its always a spare case and other bits even if the shafts are less useful.
