These have been a while coming but here they are. There is a previous thread about them that may be worth a read:
http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.p...tid=212532&fr=0

THESE STARTER MOTORS HAVE A 9 TOOTH PINION, ONLY SUITABLE TO REPLACE ORIGINAL STARTERS WITH A 9 TOOTH PINION AND 107 TOOTH RING GEAR. If you have a verto with 126 tooth ring gear then they will NOT fit.

The base unit is a Nippon -Denso starter fitted to 1980's toyotas.
They are all fully reconditioned by various sources and my chum Eric has converted them to fit the mini engine.

They are geared , pre-engaged type, the solenoid directly acting on the output pinion with the small 1kw motor sitting adjacent & linked by a 4:1 gear train. This results in a light (4.5 kg), powerful unit that uses up to half the current of the original starters. All the bearings, gears, brushes, contacts etc are new. They operate on the opposite side of the ring gear to the inertia starter , so if yours is a bit mashed it doesn't really matter. They don't need the ring gear turning round as the pinion rotates slowly as it is engaging, negating the need for a lead in chamfer.

They are a simple fit, although as the motor obscures one of the mounting holes, one fixing is now a 5/16"Unf stud and nut instead of the usual 3/8" Unc bolt. This might need one of the holes opening out sligthly with a drill depending upon BL's tolerancing.

Connecting them up is easy. If you have an inertia starter the seperate solenoid is not required and can be removed, then solenoud signal is then connected to the solenoid on the starter. If you have a 9 tooth pre-engaged one it is a direct swap.

The price for these is £80 each with £10 p&p and can be delivered to Avon Park if required. I have 6 for sale, all slightly different, mainly in looks, and first come gets the bigger choice. The top left one has the main power terminal rotated round 45 degrees which might help on really tight installations.

Hi Ben,
I'll take one please - where do you want payment etc? (It's for a friend so I would assume he'll want to pay by cheque.)

I'll go for bottom centre!

Graeme.

If these go well then there may be some more in the future. Let me know when you fancy one I and will see what can be sorted. It all depends on getting the starter motors in the first place.

Ben,

As discussed at Harewood, I'd be grateful for one of these if you've got any left.

What events are you doing in the next few months? If we are at one together it would save on the hassle of postage.

Hi Mike,

Eric should be able to sort you one out. There is one made for me that you can have and Eric will make me another when a starter turns up ( I won't need one for a while yet) Eric is at MIRA this weekend and then we will be at gurston, cadwell and then curborough.

Could another batch of these be made? Long shot I know. I'd be interested in one. happy to find my own starter to use for the conversion.

If you can find your own starter then Eric will convert it for you, I'll ask him for a price. Of course, this would not come with the normal guarantees.

There are none about at the moment. there is a possibility of supplying your own starter for conversion, but it is difficult to get the correct one, i.e handed correctly.

If you have a picture of it i may be able to determine if it can be made to fit a mini.
