Put Masking tape all over the place where you are cutting and go very steady, use a cordless drill that you vary the speed. Not one that just spins like a 240v one.

Best thing ive found on fibreglass and carbonfibre is my trusty dremel!

If I where doing that id mark where i want the gauge to go, drill a hole within that circle and use the girinding dremel to grind out to the line!

Might just be hassle doing it like that lol. But that way you can leave abit more meat on and see if the gauge would go in, then tickle bits off unitl it sits in noice and toit.

If ur unsure that the guage will sit in the hole the hole saw makes, test it out on some cardboard ect and see which saw looks best.

A blunt tool will work better than a sharp one. Sharp blades often rip through the material. If you coul get hold of a blunt holesaw, i would ude one of those.
Its what i had to do on my carbon bootlid.
