I am currently busy gapping piston rings. Now as the block has been rehoned the compression rings are just within tolerance for maximum acceptable gap. About 0.043mm.

I have gapped up the oil control rings, and they measure, 1.3mm which I will just have to make do with, so it may burn a little oil.

But the oil scraper ring butts up hard to the cylinder bore with no gap where the ends meet. I have tried the original oil scraper rings that came out the bore too to check the new scrapers I'm using are not oversize, and the original rings butt up to the bore hard too.

The haynes manual states there should be a gap, however should there really be a gap where the ends meet?

Thanks

oil scrapers dont need much clearance...say 10-15thou

I definately wouldnt put them in tight though.
