Right then fellas, had a little set back today bled the clutch up and it wont budge!! At all! Ive even bust the seal on the slave pressing so hard. Ive tried putting a bar on and no joy

Specs of the clutch are

lightened steel flywheel
Lightended Backplate 1.5mm machined from lugs
ap clutch
2 Straps
Grey pressure plate

Ive pulled the pressure plate off and had a gander, the straps are spaced around 5mm? i cant see anything catching.

Any thoughts?? *angry*

leeds/wakefield.

seized plunger in the wok, but then again your not that daft as to overlook that are you,

or seized slave plunger,or plubger tigh up against the circlip , which meens you need to lengthen the pushrod to get plunger back down the bore,

dont pull f/wheel before you investigate the above,

When i remove the wok, i can tap it with a hammer and the plunger just drops out, Im currently awaiting the arrival of a clevis pin however so im using a 3/8 bolt as temporary (would this make a difference). Its deffo nothing to dith the hydraulics, as i cant move the release manually.

Isn't there normally a spacer beneath the drive straps where they bolt to the flywheel on the U/L flywheels?

This sounds like a clasic backwards clutch plate :)

Yes they are spaced equally with washers. And when the pressure plate is all bolted up the straps sit pretty level. When i take off the pressure plate i can move the clutch plate along the primary gear back and forth toward the engine and toward the flywheel are you supposed to be able to do this??

From what I rember the niple is there to centrlise the little shaft the relece bearing sits a kind of suport spigot all the new bolts you get from swifttune and Mini spares MED ect ect dont have them so I see no reason you couldnt cut it off

EDIT: where is NIC we have said Nipple at least 3 times *happy*

leeds/wakefield.

i had another think,

have you got the wok plunger the right way round, so the release arm can move through its arc freely, you must have it so the chamfered / lead is where the clutch arm goes in from,
if it goes in from the other side the arm will lock up if you try to make it do its job , as its a perfect fit so no freeplay ..

did that make sence,
clutch plate is difficult to get wrong as it would bind up the cover and backplate when you tried tightening up the three bolts, surely. something would have to bend a lot, cannot be that imo.
basically your a numpty Mike,
carl

well found the problem mike and i
it was the back plate, the lugs were machined off some 5 mm more than btm limit .... *surprised*
the guy who mike bought it off said it was fine! *surprised**surprised*

this could have never worked as the pressure plate was FULLY clamped on and no more scope to release to disengage the back plate.

anyway mike has another and fast carl is machining 1.5mm of the lugs as i type, top man carl *happy*

Ahem!!, not quite steve, , mike been over and the offending backplate has only had max 0.060" off so not the 0.200 as you suggest. anyway. i fettles up the replacement lightweight one he brought along, so he will use this,
ive explained all the critical dims to Mike, and he is at this moment hopefully checking parts and doing a dummy build.

the suspect backplate in my opinion has not had enough removed to cause the severe problems mike is describing,

its a puzzler thats for sure,

Firstly a massive thanks to Steve for coming over and going over the clutch with me and Carl for sorting out the backplate top fellas!

Ive had the backplate fitted and it seems to spring in a little more but less than i expected. Ive bled up the clutch and it does move and may work but i wont really know until i get the engine going and try moving the car. Carl i measured from the flywheel face to the pressure plate locating ring and its 22mm i did the same on a standard item and its exactly the same so this rule that out.

Heres a pic of the setup and does this look ok??

It could be me not being used to how heavy a race clutch is as ive only ever used standard items.
