am not using era diagram using an easier one, the pump is earthed to the car and the +ve goes to the relay nar the earth then one wire comes off the relay to the white (pos 2) wire and one goes to the red/white (pos 3) on the ignition, the other wire taps into the oil pressure switch why does it come on on 2?!!!!
if that all makes sense!

red/white is starter signal,

At a guess, I would say that you have a mini oil pressure switch, not a metro turbo switch, they work the opposite way round so pump is running with no oil pressure.

does the fuel pump stop and start when you connect and disconnect the oil pressure switch? On a mini, the switch is closed (grounded) when the engine has no oil pressure, on a metro turbo, the switch is open (not grounded) when there is no oil pressure.

If the pump runs regardless of what the oil pressure is doing, you have wired everything up wrong! There is a diagram in the help section of this forum.

The starter red/white is there so that the fuel pump spins up when you crank the car as there would be no oil pressure with a stationary engine, it is simply a bypass.

Hope this helps, I have not wired my pump up through the oil pressure switch, have put an inertia switch in the circuit instead which kills the pump and ignition if the car gets bumped (much safer as the engine may still run after a crash so fuel will keep pumping as long as there is oil pressure!) do not presume that because the dizzy cap is at the front, it will get smashed in the event of an accident.
