Sorry to hear it Rick.

I had a same experience this year. Engine related. With my road car. Don't laugh. Clio 172. Only had 46k on it and the cambelt snapped.

Fully service history and all that. Renault quoted £360 just to have a look to prove that the engine was knackered. (£85 an hour) New engine quote was £3000 before fitting.

Looked at stripping the engine myself and rebuilding it. Parts alone were getting silly to. Eventually got a contact of a Renault specialist who quoted £1500 for low mileage 21k motor, including full service and fitting a new clutch.

This is the route I went down. Reason being. Time, Hassle free and warranty.

Car back on the road quick as possible and back pocket hurt but not killed.

I think a car like yours its worth the specialists quotes. Piece of mind and to maintain the cars future value.

Ah don't tell me that about the Clio, I have a 182 at 46k miles and I think I may sell it onto someone else before it starts costing £££. Shame as I really like the car. Time for something sensible me thinks. Shame about the Porker too!

Excellent news. That looks like a lot more of a lump than the engine I helped take out of my mate 911 SC.
