Do you know if they do one for the MINI, as i'm running out of room now and it would be good to fit behind my seat if i could get a thinner one.

We order in quite alot of space savers as everyone seems to want them nowa days, smallest ive seen is a 13. Doubt if they will go smaller. couldnt you fit a 10x4.5 behind the passenger instead?

Cheers, Stevo

Why not use a 3,5" Cooper S wheel with a 145 tyre? That should be thin enough.

I noticed the other day that on my mates small trailer that it has a 10" mini wheel on one side and a small trailer wheel on the other. I guess that this means that the trailer wheel is the same PCD as the mini wheel. It might be worth investigating if trailer wheel could be used......... not sure is would be a great idea though. If I were you I would ditch the spare wheel and get yourself a can of that foam stuff. That also means you can ditch the jack and all the other stuff that goes with it.

I have unearthed a photocopy I have from an old tire catalogue, I think from Bridgestone, which mentions these other standard sizes. The second value is the diameter (I suppose that according to rolling radius, not static) and the third one is maximum weight (not load):

145/70 10
ø 458 mm
272 kg

155/70 10
ø 472 mm
307 kg

135/70 12
ø 495 mm
290 kg

125/70 12
ø 510 mm
265 kg

Compare with these "reference values"

145/82 10
ø 492 mm
315 kg

165/70 10
ø 486 mm
355 kg

165/60 12
ø 503 mm
335 kg

The same sheet, which is some five years old, only mentions two "temporary" sizes close to the "reference values":

105/80 13
ø 495 mm
475 kg

105/70 14
ø 504 mm
487 kg

Of course nowadays there must be many other sizes.

In order to make a "temporary" wheel fit your Mini you could maybe try finding a 13 inch steel wheel with the right 4 inch PCD (Metro Mk1?), narrow it and weld it again in such a way that it fits the temp tyre while keeping a decent offset. Maybe Mr TurboDave can explain if the result would be safe for your purposes.

However, with the power you have you would fit such a tyre only to the rear as it happens with the ERA Turbo, wouldn't you?

Just an idea. What do you all think?

Ben H, that's a good idea about the foam, however I'm not to worried about weight as my car will never be a light one, this more about the room i've got, but what puts me off about the foam idea is I was speaking to a guy with a Clio 182 or 172 what ever it was, and they don't have a spare wheel either they just have 2 cans of the foam. He said it's just to get you home measure is the foam and you will have to replace the tyre as well as the foams NO good for the tyres.

Now as you no if you catch your puncher fast enough you can re use the tyre again, but not with the foam, so that's why I'm still thinking of having a spare. (me being tight i guess lol)

AuthiMini cheers for taking the time to find that out, some good info there.
That's a great idea about welding a wheel to make a narrower one*wink* and yes mate it would go on the back or a very slow drive careful drive home would be neeed.

I carry my mobile fone, when i get a puncture i fone home and get someone to brign me out a tyre :) the 2 12" subs in my boot take up any space that may have been occupied by a spare. i only carry a spare for long hauls.

turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)

If you use the repair foam,

you'll find that some tyre shops won't touch the wheel at all. I had some tyre shops telling me to just throw the wheel/tyre away as they wouldn't touch it!!! I pointed out that the alpina rim was none too cheap, but they still turned me away.

I found somewhere in the end, it just cost a little more.

Too many projects!

JPboost, I have heard it knackers the tyre, but not the wheel! I know the new M5's and M3's come with tyre foam, as there exhaust system take up the space where the spare wheel usually is.

jim,

IIRC (although it was a few years back)
the tyre fitters were grumbling about toxic fumes etc from the foam.

nowt worse than a 'health and safety jobsworth' in my opinion

Too many projects!
